The Motorola Moto 360 was perhaps the best android wear smart watch of 2014. Its round design set it apart from any other smart watch at the time and a year after the critically acclaimed watch, yesterday Motorola finally took the stage to announce the second generation Moto 360.

The Watch features a number of improvements over the previous model. This year alongside the standard 46 mm model, Motorola will also offer a 42 mm model targeted towards the female audience. Along with two sizes this year’s model can also be customized to your liking using Motorola’s Moto maker. Users can customize everything from wrist band and body textures to the accent colors and the metal finish. The watch is also made of 316L stain less steal body which is rated IP 67 dust and water resistance. Like last year the watch is still powered by an IPS display however this year the Moto 360 features a higher resolution of 360 x 330 pixels on the 46 mm version or 360 x 325 pixels on the 42 mm version. Another improvement in the second generation watch is that the bands are easily swappable using a build in latch.

One of the most significant improvements in the second generation watch is the change from the Texas instruments TI OMAP 3 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor found in the first generation model to Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2 GHz processor with an Adreno 305 GPU. This is a big improvement as the first generation Moto 360 had well documented problems related to software lag and stutter, a bump in the processor this year will make sure the newer model improves on the problems found in the first generation. Also Motorola has added a higher rated 400 mAh battery for the larger 46 mm whereas the smaller version supports a 300 mAh battery. Motorola has also promised a battery life of 1.5 to 2 days of moderate usage.

The Moto 360 is available for pre order right now between the price ranges of $299 to $429. Motorola will also be launching the Moto 360 sports variant which will be available later this year however Motorola has not revealed the price of the sports model. Like last year on paper the Moto 360 is a one of the best android wear smart watch currently on the market; however this year the smart watch landscape has completely changed. The round design is no longer unique and is supported by a lot of smart watches on the market like the LG watch urbane and the Huawei Watch. Also when the original Moto 360 was announced the Apple Watch wasn’t available, however currently the Apple Watch is the most successful smart watch on the market, plus Samsung has also teased a launch of a round smart watch, so it would be interesting to see how the second generation Moto 360 performs against such stiff competition.

What is your opinion on the new smart watch and which new feature of the watch appealed to you the most, share it in the comments below and stay tuned for more in the future.
