The domestic T20 cup 2015/16 just ended with Peshawar Region defeating Karachi blues in the final by 7 wickets. The tournament has received acclaim from observers and fans for its nail biting contests and the quality of the pitches compared to the previous editions. During the tournament a lot of young and upcoming players showed potential by performing for their teams at key moments. A lot of players showed skills that are required to succeed at the international level. Even though there are critics complaining about the lack of talent in Pakistan, the tournament was a testament to the quality of players in the domestic circle. So here are 5 players who shined during the T20 cup 2015/16.
- Imran Khan juniorSharing his name with one of the greatest all-rounder in the history of the game, Imran Khan junior was instrumental in Peshawar’s success during the tournament. He picked up 16 wickets in seven matches at an average of 12.12 and a strike rate of 1 wicket per 10 balls. His timely wickets of Khalid Latif, Asad Shafiq and Anwer Ali during the final also helped Peshawar restrict Karachi at a chase able score. The left arm medium pacer showed his range as a bowler in the tournament winning the prize of the bowler of the tournament and in the process getting a call from the selectors for the Zimbabwe tour.
- Iftikhar Ahmed
The Peshawar all-rounder was another ingredient in the team’s success, scoring 299 runs at an average of 74.75, but the most impressive stat about the youngster was a strike rate of almost 146 per 100 balls. Another impressive feat for Iftikhar was the consistency with which he scored his runs, scoring 4 fifties in seven matches, including a fifty in the final to guide his team home. Though his bowling wasn’t the most effective, the all-rounder was successful in getting the prize of the best batsman of the tournament.
- Bilal Asif
The all-rounder of the tournament has been knocking on the selector’s doors for a long time and the recent edition of the tournament was no different. Taking 9 wickets in 6 matches Bilal Asif’s performance with the ball in hand was incredible. Conceding runs at an economy rate of only 6.88 it was unfortunate that he could not lead his team to the final. Not only Bilal Asif’s performance with the ball was great, he played some handy knocks with the bat too, scoring a fifty against Islamabad and also taking 3 wickets in the same game was his best performance of the tournament.
- Rumman Raees
Rumman Raees was another left arm medium pacer who drew a lot of attention. He picked up 16 wickets in just eleven matches at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 14.6. He was the leader of the Karachi attack alongside Anwer Ali and his performances against Lahore and in the semifinal against Multan helped Karachi blues to qualify for the final.
- Rafatullah Mohmand
The Peshawar opener was the reason for Peshawar’s victory over Sialkot in the semifinal, scoring 78 runs in just 51 balls to guide his team towards victory. He also gave his team a very good start in the final against Karachi scoring 43 runs of just 23 balls. Overall Rafatullah Mohmand had a decent tournament scoring 230 runs at an average of 32 and an impressive strike rate of 157. The fact that he scored runs in big matches is the reason he gets a spot on this list.
