The three khans of Bollywood are the biggest superstars that the Indian movie industry has ever seen. In the last two decades, they have reigned supreme and have always been presented as the main attraction in all of the movies in which they act. However, in the last couple of years, the trend seems to be shifting with Khans taking a backseat and letting other actors shine. Here is a list of movies where the Khan’s were not in the limelight
- Dhobi Ghat:
This underrated parallel cinema gem was released in the year 2011 and was produced by Aamir Khan, who also starred in the movie. The movie was not made with the mainstream audiences in mind and Khan himself was limited to a small role. The movie focused more on the characters portrayed by other actors like Prateik Babar etc. Understandably the movie did not gain much success at the box office but remains a critical favorite.
- No entry:
No entry was one of the biggest movies of the year 2005 and played a key role in establishing Anees Bazmi’s career as a Bollywood director. The movie also starred Salman Khan, who was going through a rough patch at that time, in a cameo role. While Khan’s role was good, the movie ultimately belonged to Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan who had the best lines and clearly overshadowed Khan in the movie.
- Billu Barber:
Billu Barber was a movie produced by Shahrukh Khan himself but he was not the main star of the movie. His role was that of a cameo. The story revolved around Irfan Khan who played the lead role in the movie. It is the story of Billu, a childhood friend of a movie star, and his family. While the movie was fairly enjoyable, it was an average grosser at the box office and was not the kind of success that an average Shahrukh Khan movie usually is.
- Phir Milenge:
Salman Khan is not really known for acting in movies with a social message. He is in fact known for over the top masala movies. Perhaps that is the reason why Phir Milenge is such an anomaly in his filmography. Khan portrays a person who suffers from HIV-AIDS. The real star of the movie though was Shilpa Shetty who received all the applause for the movie. Khan’s role was more of a cameo in the movie. It continues to be one the rare moments where Salman Khan is not the main attraction of the movie and this fact is perhaps the only reason why people still remember this film.
Baghban is widely remembered for the lead actors in the movie; Amitabh Bachan and Hema Malini. The main focus of the movie was essentially on those two actors and it is only towards the end of the movie that Salman Khan shows up. Khan’s character is that of a doting son who worships his parents. While Khan’s performance added to the movie but it is because of Bachan and Malini’s pairing that the movie is still fondly remembered.
